2014 Bantayanihan Video
Quezon City. In 2013, GAIA together with Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) and Ecowaste
Coalition (EWC) supported typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) survivors in the
municipalities of Bantayan and Madridejos in the island of Bantayan,
Cebu province.
Our intervention had three basic features: (1) Direct support to individual households by way of providing basic carpentry kits, limited building materials, and house-building advisory services for those in the midst of rebuilding their houses; (2) General support for the community by way of starting a library of carpentry tools which the rest of the community can access for house repair and other purposes; and (3) Contributing to disaster preparedness and recovery through disaster preparedness seminars and planning, waste management seminars and waste assessment and characterization studies, and psychological first aid trainings.
In observance of Yolanda's first anniversary, we would like to share with you this short video of our experience of the will to survive of our fellow Filipinos and, more than that, the incredible goodwill of the survivors to help one another in spite of their own misfortune.
Meet our partners and listen to their stories here.
Special thanks to TDH, ANCE, PEJC, UC-MET Mambaling, FTCP, and JunkNot for their invaluable support.
